My experience
This semester I was lucky enough to be able to study in Salamanca, Spain. Salamanca is one of the most historically and culturally rich cities in all of Europe and if traveling to Spain, it is a must-see. Studying here has allowed me to improve my Spanish, make new friends from all around the world, and live in a completely different culture! It is safe to say Salamanca has become my home away from home.
One of my favorite things about Salamanca is it´s rich history. Founded in 1218, the University of Salamanca celebrates nearly 800 years of tradition and is the third oldest university in the world! It´s detailed, gothic architecture makes walking around this city and to class a fairytale. Although Salamanca is an old city, it has a young, vibrant, upbeat atmosphere, and students fill the streets day and night.
A main reason why I decided to study in Spain was because I wanted to improve my Spanish. I have studied Spanish in the past, but I knew the best way to learn a language is to experience it first-hand. My decision to live with a host family in Salamanca, is one of the best decisions I could have made. Not only did this allow me to practice my Spanish daily, but it forced me to fully immerse myself into the Spanish culture. By the end of my first week here, I quickly adapted to the big lunches, daily siestas, and eating dinner at a time where I would normally go to sleep.
Another aspect that has allowed me to improve my Spanish is my internship at Colegio Unamuno. What I liked most about having an internship here was that I was able to have a first-hand experience doing business in a foreign country. I was able to work in a multicultural enviornment, speak with clients from around the world, and build relationships with my co-workers! Colegio Unamuno has made a huge impact and my experience in Spain would not have been the same without them!
The past three months have been life changing and they have gone by within a blink of an eye. It is hard to believe I only have one month left here, but I know I will definitley be back soon.
